David Chang

Profile
David Chang was born in Changhua on Oct 20th, 1976. Chang’s family owns a movie theater and he grew up watching all kinds of movies. When he turned 13, his whole family immigrated to Vancouver and he began to learn filming. He received the student photography award at 14 with Silhouette. His growing interest in film production made him produce his first short film, 《Cinderella 93》, which received awards at UBC Student Film Festival.
He entered UBC in 1998 and majored in Film Studies and French Literature. The same year, his short film, 《Quest for Fire》, received full Provincial Scholarship and a local TV station bought the film. He began filing short films and working in theaters for three years after graduation. In 2003, he joined Brightlight Pictures to manage postproduction.
In 2004, Chang returned to Taiwan and began his career as assistant director. He’s worked with Tsui Hark, Yonfan, Niu Chen-zer, Jay Chou, Lin Yu-hsien, Leste Chen, and Chen Yin-jung. He also worked with GIO’s Department of Motion Pictures and other film companies as a translator for documents and subtitles. He also took up part-time jobs as host at film festivals and interpreter. He was also the lead supporting actor, working with Sinje Lee, David Wang and Tony Yang in 2011 Golden Horse Opening short film directed by Sylvia Chang. 《Double Trouble》 is his first feature-length drama.
