LEE Kang-sheng
Gender: Male
Profile
LEE Kang-sheng was born in 1968 in Taipei. He was never keen on his studies and spent his time alone at video game stores. He had a random encounter with TSAI Ming-liang once at one of those places and began what became their long-lasting years of collaboration on filmmaking. The collaboration of Rebels of the Neon God in 1992 won them numerous international film festival awards, and has allowed the untrained actor to become a regular actor in all of TSAI’s films. Vive L'Amour in 1994 won LEE Best Actor in Nantes Festival of the Three Continents.
In 2003, LEE had his debut film as a director, The Missing won three major awards at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and also Best Picture for the New Currents Award at the Pusan International Film Festival. Four years later, his second feature Help Me Eros boldly depicted sexual taboos that were considered to be controversial subjects. It was nominated for the Competition Section at the Venice International Film Festival and was awarded the Special Jury Award at the Bangkok International Film Festival.
