This year's contest progressed in 3 separate categories - "Society Category," "Campus Category," and "Golden Short Film Category." A total of 324 well-made productions were submitted for the contest, and the "Society Category," in particular, received record-breaking number of entries this year. The "4K Award" was introduced for the first time this year, and it already received 30 entries. It is evident that high-resolution video production is the trend of the future. With regards to individual awards, the Best Actor title is being contested by previous year's winner Liao Chin-liang, senior actor Lin I-hsiung and other new talents; meanwhile, nominees for Best Actress include this year's Golden Bell Awards Mini Series Best Actress Wen Cheng-ling and He Yu-chen from Qseries You Talked About Love It. There is much to be expected from the contest between seasoned and new performers.
The 52nd Golden Bell Awards Best Actress winner Wen Cheng-ling was nominated Best Actress for her role in Please Come Home
The nominees will undergo the second round of review towards the end of October, during which the final winners will be chosen. The winning list will be revealed during the award ceremony held on November 20. The winning productions will also be screened at SPOT Huashan Cinema during the "2017 MOD Microfilm and Golden Short Film Contest - Exhibition Screening" to be held on November 26.
The list of nominees was concluded after intensive debate among the 3 preliminary juries of the respective categories. The 33 nominated films included a broad variety of genres from drama, animation to documentary. Each category will have two Top Selection Awards and two Excellence Recognitions chosen, and all nominated films will compete together for the Million-dollar Grand Prize, the CHT Collaboration Award, and three individual awards (namely: Best Actor, Best Actress, and Best Screenplay). Productions that meet specifications such as 4K, animation and documentary will have a chance to win the 4K Award, the Best Animation Award and the Sundance Documentary Collaboration Award, all of which have been introduced for the first time this year. Furthermore, a Best Potential Award has been created especially for senior high/vocational school students aged below 18, and the winner will be chosen from one of the 4 nominees.
For the ELTA Screenplay Collaboration Award, the sponsor - ELTA TV had chosen four nominees from all submitted entries to compete for the NT$800,000 prize.
